$4 Gasoline and McBush's Fantasy World

Last night, I watched Comedy Central's Daily Show. I just love that show. Mr. Stewart pointed out that, three months ago, during one of his rare press conferences, Bush II feigned surprised at a reporter's assertion that $4 a gallon gasoline was on the horizon. Bush II said that he hadn't heard that and even treated the reporter's comments with contempt. Later, in that same press conference, McCain's mentor said that, if Congress would just defeat any attempt to end corporate welfare to oil companies, it would prevent $4 a gallon gasoline.

Fast forward to today. Congress didn't pass any measure to end welfare to big oil, and we have $4 a gallon gasoline! It seems Bush III (aka McCain aka McBush) doesn't have to try very hard to look exactly like Bush II. They share fundamental ideas and beliefs, especially when it comes to doling out welfare to big oil. I wonder if McBush knows about $4 a gallon gasoline? As I'm sure it's occurred to everyone else, unless McCain denounces everything about Bush, I mean every single thing, there's no way in hell he can get elected President! The beauty of it is, if he does denounce Bush, he still doesn't have a chance!

Well, it looks like five dollar per gallon gas is just around the corner. Another hurricane in the gulf and we could be talking about six dollar per gallon gas. Yesterday, corn prices skyrocketed because of the floods in the midwest. I'm certainly not better off than I was eight years ago.

Uh, well since higher fuel costs = higher food costs then it should bother you. It's not just gas. It's everything really - everything that has to be transported for consumers will/is being affected.

I'm merely making a statement that Americans are going to, like I have done, make lifestyle changes to handle the fuel costs. By cutting out travel by gas-powered vehicle, I can afford the more expensive food costs.

I agree with you 100%. But there are plenty of Americans who cannot cut out travel by gas powered vehicle. Public transportation is usually pretty inadequate. What people are having to do is choose between gas and food. And with unemployment numbers going up people are actually having a hard time coming up with the gas to go look for a job.

I actually structured my life around not having a car. I realize that not everyone can do this... but it's something that needs to be considered for the long term energy issues our country will face.

even know the price of gas. It's not like he does any driving...or reads newspapers...or has a plan for the economy.

some of us that dont live in a big metropolitan city, are really hurting. I mean half of us are just making minimum wage meaning that 2/3 of an hour at work goes to just gas to get to work.

its sick. its sad. McCain is a dumbass. what else is new?

I am lucky. I live 10 miles from work and own a hybrid. I feel sorry for people stuck in homes they can't sell, driving cars they can't replace, many miles from work.

Making the necessary adjustments (better gas mileage, moving closer to work, public transportation) often takes time and meanwhile their pocketbooks are not keeping up.
